Strap on your Manolos, girls – there’s a new Carrie in town. AnnaSophia Robb, the young actress tapped to play a young, pre-Sex and the City Carrie Bradshaw, has spoken about her new role in the prequel series The Carrie Diaries.

The nineteen-year-old will play Bradshaw before her days as a freelance writer and compulsive shoe buyer, instead navigating the halls of a Manhattan high school in the 1980s (neon and all).

“It’s a bit nerve wracking but I think it will be a great show,” Robb said of her new role. “We have a great cast and great writers and the fashion’s going to be amazing but it will definitely have a different flavour than the original Sex and the City because it’s for a younger audience. But I really hope to make Carrie Diaries the Sex and the City of my generation.”

Although Robb has the hair and splashy fashions of Bradshaw, we’re not entirely sold on the similarities between her and Sarah Jessica Parker. And did we mention the original series ended when Robb was 12? Although the series could be either a fresh take or the final blow to the franchise, there are some pros: maybe we’ll get insight into how Carrie’s shopping addiction manifested. Maybe we’ll actually meet her parents (like daughter, like mother?). Or maybe all we’ll be left with is a bad case of buyer’s remorse. – Christian Allaire
