At a beauty event this week, a fellow beauty editor remarked, “Your lashes are insane!” Perhaps under the impression that I’d been flirting with lash-growth treatment Latisse, she asked, “What are you using?” My answer may have surprised her, because my lash secret doesn’t require a prescription: it’s Maybelline’s new The Falsies Mascara, coupled with a little strategic mascara application. The Falsies’s curved, spoon-shaped brush is the real standout of this mascara: it fans out lashes for a full, Bambi-worthy fringe. And the wand is the perfect tool to work a mascara trick I picked up a while back from makeup artist David Goveia: apply mascara not only upwards, but also outwards, slightly dragging lashes on the diagonal to create a flirty, eye-opening effect. And just watch the lash envy ensue.
Maybelline The Falsies Volum’ Express Mascara, $9. At drugstores and mass retailers.
