All About Uma
We haven’t seen much of Uma Thurman lately, but thankfully, we hear this tall drink of water is due for a comeback of sorts. The statuesque bombshell will reprise her spokesmodel role for mega-luxury company LVMH in the Fall (she’s already a veteran face of Tag Heuer and Louis Vuitton) as the star of the latest hush-hush fragrance from Givenchy. While we always love a new spritz to play with, we are super excited about Uma’s next role in the upcoming flick Eloise in Paris. Thurman will play nanny to the plucky young lady who resides in the Plaza Hotel with her adorable pug.

Spring Cleaning
While summer hasn’t exactly hit the city just yet, we think waiting for warmer weather is the perfect time to purge your vanity––let’s face it, that uber-sweet candy vanilla lotion isn’t doing much to lighten up your mood. We scooped up some gorgeous little items from luxe bath company Lothantique in their heavenly Le Bouquet de Lili scent and our powder room has never looked…or smelled chicer. Every time we catch a drift of the fresh fragrance we’re left feeling like we’re in the middle of a Haute-Provence garden, which is quite comforting after a long day waiting for the sun to come out. Call (877) 425-7627 or visit www.lothantique.ca.

Red Carpet Beauty
Stylistas came out in full force on Monday night for the Met Costume Ball, hosted by ultimate it kids Justin Timberlake, Kate Moss, and Marc Jacobs. JT’s own leading lady, Jessica Biel, stole the red carpet in her scarlet Versace Atelier gown and glowing complexion. Biel, Revlon’s new spokesmodel, was made up by the brand’s own makeup guru and Global Artistic Director, Gucci Westman. To achieve a subtle glow, Westman smoothed on Revlon’s Age Defying Spa Foundation, which has a brush applicator for the ultimate creamy finish. To create Biel’s earthy eyes, Westman smudged Rich Sable Matte eyeshadow all over her eyelid and underneath her lower lash line, then added Vintage Lace Matte eyeshadow under her brow bone. A little touch of Nude Attitude Matte lipstick and the glamour gal was camera ready.

Hair Cares
There’s nothing worse than creating the perfect coif for a big evening out and then ending up with a not-so-sexy, frizzy do in the heat of the night. Prep your locks for the upcoming season (and humidity) with the new Stay Soft collection from Evolve, an all-Canadian brand that focuses on “hairtrition” to keep hair looking sleek. Your locks will thank you for ingredients like soybean extract, sugar cane, rice protein and flaxseed oil. This year, thanks to their significant contributions, Evolve has also been named an official sponsor of the United Nations World Food Programme, the world’s largest humanitarian organization in the fight against hunger. Available at select salons across Canada.

Jane

Jane

Slain Jane
While seemingly recessionista-friendly, popular mass makeup brand Jane has unfortunately taken a beauty beating and filed for Chapter 11 under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The company will be able to reorganize while continuing to operate and fill orders at least through June, in an effort to avoid putting itself up for sale. Jane reps say it fell victim to fighting for shelf space with fellow mid-sized brands, since big-box retailers have slashed the amount of inventory they stock… unfortunately, that may result in fewer and fewer choices being offered to beauty junkies everywhere.

Eco Hair-apy
Joico products may have a reputation for providing lush and healthy locks but they’re also on the road to providing good vibes for the planet. Joico’s parent company, Zotos International, are making major improvements to their manufacturing process as part of their commitment to environmental responsibility. Some of their eco-initiatives include using up to 70% post-recycled consumer material in their bottles, eliminating all hazardous waste, reducing their carbon dioxide emissions by 11% (the equivalent of planting 8,000 trees) and their revolutionary new on-site wind-generated power program, which they plan to use for 100% of their electricity by 2011, taking their Geneva facility completely “off the grid”.
