THE ANTI-CANDIDA DIET

Foods to avoid:

SUGAR
• All sweeteners, including: white sugar, brown sugar, honey, maple syrup, corn syrup, maple sugar, molasses, turbinado, and raw sugar
• Sucrose, fructose, maltose, lactose, glycogen, glucose, mannitol, sorbitol, galactose, monosaccharides, polysaccharides

FRUIT
• All fruits, including frozen, canned, and dried fruit
• All canned and frozen fruit juice
• Melons, especially cantaloupe (these fruits often contain mould)

YEAST
• Baker’s yeast
• Brewer’s yeast
• Baked goods prepared with yeast (breads, rolls, crackers, pastries, muffins, etc.)

REFINED GRAINS
• Biscuits
• Cakes
• Cereals (unless the label shows 100% whole grain ingredients)
• Cornstarch
• Custard powder
• White flour products
• White pasta
• White rice

FERMENTED PRODUCTS
• White vinegar
• Red wine vinegar
• Apple cider vinegar
• Balsamic vinegar
• Spreads & sauces, including: mayonnaise, salad dressing, ketchup, steak sauce, BBQ sauce, shrimp sauce, soy sauce, mustard, pickled vegetables, green olives, relishes, and horseradish sauce

FUNGUS
• Mushrooms
• Truffles

MOLD
• Peanuts
• Peanut Butter
• Pistachios

ALCOHOL
• All forms, including: red wine, white wine, beer, whiskey, brandy, gin, scotch, any fermented liquor, vodka, rum, and all liqueurs

CHEESES
• All forms of aged, mouldy and processed cheeses, including: Roquefort, Gorgonzola and other blue cheeses, processed cheese such as cheese slices or dips/sauces.

Foods to eat

Foods to Eat:

WHOLEGRAINS
• Yeast-free bread made with whole wheat flour, or other whole grains.
• Brown rice products (rice cakes, crackers, cereal, etc.)
• Millet, quinoa, oats, amaranth, buckwheat, etc.

LEAN PROTEIN
• Fish, including: salmon, herring, sardines, tuna, tilapia, sole, haddock, mackerel, etc.
• Lean white meats (limit red/processed meats)
• Organic eggs
• Legumes, including lentils, chickpeas, black beans, etc.

YOGURT
• Natural, unsweetened yogurt contains active bacterial cultures (“probiotics”) that help reduce yeast in the genital and gastroin-testinal tracts.

GARLIC (raw is best) In addition to being a superfood for the immune system, garlic has potent anti-fungal properties that help combat yeast overgrowth.

FRESH VEGETABLES AND JUICES provide essential nutrients and antioxidants to support the immune system and fibre to help repair the digestive system (beware of carrot juice—it contains a lot of sugar).

HERBS AND MILD SPICES
• Cayenne
• Peppermint
• Sea salt

HEALTHY FATS
• Cold-pressed oils, including: olive, flax seed, grape seed, etc.
• Nuts (no peanuts or pistachios), including: almonds, pecans and walnuts
• Seeds, including: sunflower, pumpkin, flax and sesame

Sample Menu:

Breakfast:
 • Warm water with freshly squeezed lemon juice
 • Herbal tea
 • 2 brown rice cakes with almond butter
 • ½ c unsweetened yogurt (with active bacterial cultures)

Mid-morning Snack:
 • Handful of raw nuts & seeds
 • Herbal tea or lemon water

Lunch:
 • Salad (leafy greens/spring mix) with olive oil and chopped raw nuts
 • Vegetarian chili or mixed bean soup

Mid-afternoon Snack:
 • Veggie sticks and hummus or tzatziki
 • ½ c unsweetened yogurt
 • Lemon water

Dinner:
 • Lean protein (fish, chicken)
    – add plenty of garlic and/or selected herbs/spices to taste
    – best grilled, baked or as a stir-fry
 • Steamed veggies (broccoli, asparagus, etc.)
 • ½ c brown rice
