New York Fashion Week is well underway for spring 2013 and we’ve been keeping an eye out for the coolest beauty looks to hit the catwalk. So far, the gorgeous eye shadow at Peter Som is a big winner (and the soft rainbow hair streaks, created by Wella’s Aura Friedman, aren’t too shabby, either!). Rather than the traditional graduation from dark shadow at the lash line to pale at the brow bone, makeup artist Tom Pecheux for M.A.C chose to use a bright, striking shade just beneath the brow, with a light wash of colour over the rest of the lid.

We love the sunset look of orange and hot pink for tan or dark skin, and a bright lilac with soft peach for paler skin tones. If you’re nervous about these shadow pairings, keep it simple by choosing two blues, two purples or two greens — one light and one bright. It’s a great way to chase away the makeup blahs.

FLARE picks: M.A.C Eye Shadow in Orange and Passionate, $18 each, Yves Rocher Single Eyeshadow in Violette and Fleur d’Oranger, $9 each,
