Canadian supermodel Daria with fashion designer Alexandre Vauthier, holding the clutch he designed for Lancôme
Fashion designers are regularly called upon to do capsule collections for other clothing brands, but collaborating with a beauty behemoth is much less common. Which is why Nouvelle Vague by Lancôme—a limited-edition line of three haute “makeup bags” created by Alexandre Vauthier, Simon Porte Jacquemus and Yiqing Yin—is such a coup for the three young Paris-based talents.
The trio was given carte blanche to imagine a couture carrying case for three Lancôme bestsellers: a L’Absolu Rouge lipstick, a Hypnôse Star mascara and a Hypnôse smoky eye palette (the products are included when you splurge on the pouch). Were it not for the Lancôme logo, however, and rose insignia on each design, you’d hardly guess these are makeup cases—they’re chic enough to double as clutches.
The Nouvelle Vague by Lancôme collection, $850 (Vauthier or Yin) and $450 (Jacquemus), launches this week at Holt Renfrew’s Montreal, Yorkdale and Vancouver locations.
