Chalk up another one for Chanel. The iconic brand is—once again—absolutely on target with its latest nail colour, Paradoxal. The purple-grey polish cleverly intersects fall’s long-standing lust for rich berry shades with the recent predominance of the greige nail trend. Aptly named, the polish presents a study in contradiction: a rich yet subdued colour that deceives with its first impression. In the bottle, bright holographic swirls sparkle in the light, yet on the nail, the colour takes on a darker raisin hue with just a slight shimmer. Despite our surprise when we painted it on, we quickly fell in love with what we predict will be the must-have polish for fall.
With each season’s collection of Le Vernis Nail Colour, Chanel proves itself an authority in polish trends. Hark back to 1994, when the launch of Vamp, a deep chocolaty-red, catapulted the dark polish craze into the beauty world. More recently, Chanel nailed the mushroom trend with Particulière this spring, then followed with summer’s perfect turquoise, Nouvelle Vague. It seems Peter Philips, Chanel’s creative director of cosmetics, is on a roll. We can’t wait to see what the makeup maestro will come up with next.
