Alicia Keys continued the #NoMakeup crusade she started at June’s BET Awards, showing up on the MTV VMAs red carpet without a single stroke of product on. The R&B songstress started going makeup-free after photographer Paola Kudacki snapped her face au naturel for the cover of her recent single “In Common.” Keys was so smitten with the resulting photo and how it made her feel that she wrote about it in a recent Lenny Letter, saying, “I swear it is the strongest, most empowered, most free, and most honestly beautiful that I have ever felt.”
In a similar proclamation of sans fard beauty, Canada’s Alessia Cara—and one of our #60Under30 boss babes—sang her hit song “Scars to Your Beautiful” during the VMAs pre-show with natural hair and no makeup, something she’s been doing for every performance or interview about the anthem, which includes the v. empowering lyric, “You should know you’re beautiful just the way you are.”
And even contouring kween, Kim Kardashian, went for a more minimalist beauty look last night. Her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic told the dailymail.com that “[Kim had] a nice tan, so we decided to go super clean and bronze-y with not a ton of make-up or defining on the face. We didn’t use any heavy liners, we didn’t use any false lashes.”
Even if this is only a fleeting moment for Kardashian, we’re always advocates of the no makeup makeup look, which is something we’ve been going on about since our March 2015 #WokeUpLikeThis cover and inside feature, which you can read here!
