Melt-Proof Makeup Tips That Brave The Heat

The humidex may be rising, but we show you how to save face

Summer has arrived and the temperature is creeping into the 30s, but that doesn’t mean you have to skip makeup and resort to cold showers. With the right products, you can minimize shine and keep your face in place—’cause no one wants to be a hot mess, right?

First things first: Prep your skin. The right cleanser, toner and sunscreen will decrease the “ick factor” of your makeup throughout the day. Wash with a gel cleanser, then swipe a mattifying toner across your t-zone. Unless you have extra-dry skin that requires additional moisture, skip your traditional face lotion and apply an oil-control sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection.

On a scorching day, waterproof makeup is your best friend. Keep it light with a mousse foundation and waterproof concealer. If you plan to wear eye makeup, smooth lids with an eye primer to keep shadow in place, along with a budge-proof eyeliner pencil and mascara. A multi-tasking lip and cheek stain will stay better than most formulas, but it’s also important to keep blotting papers and a makeup eraser in your purse for those extra sweaty moments.
