GODDESS OF BEAUTY FAIR LADY IRON MAIDEN ICE QUEEN

GODDESS OF BEAUTY
Inspired by Ancient Egypt, kohl makeup is having its brightest moment yet. Designer Christopher Kane showcased warrior women on the runway, with sharp black eyeliner around the perimeter of the eye, while Alexander McQueen channelled Cleopatra. We’re loving near-black colours with just enough hue to flatter, such as deep jade, smoky burgundy and midnight blue. Sweater, Gap. Dress, French Connection. Beauty Treasures M.A.C Eye Kohl Pencil in Mystery, $16. Cover Girl Perfect Point Plus Eye Pencil in Plum Velvet, $7. Maybelline Line Stylist in Sapphire Glimmer, $8.

FAIR LADY
Throughout history, women have been known to bite their lips and pinch their cheeks when no other makeup is in sight. We spotted modern-day maidens, perhaps inspired by Snow White, at Zac Posen. We’re loving the lip-to-match-cheek concept for a fresh-faced look to wear with our autumn knits. Choose a blush that matches your lip colour in coral, berry or rose—or go for a two-in-one stain—and brighten your eyes with white eyeliner. Top, By Malene Birger. Hair strap, Mokuba. Beauty Treasures Cargo Blush in Rome , $26. Napoleon Perdis DéVine Goddess Lipstick in Hara, $25. Lise Watier Waterproof Eyeliner in Blanc, $16.

IRON MAIDEN
The “it” eye colour of the season? Grey deserves the crown. The season’s peppered sweaters, dusky leathers and armoured accents have stirred a love affair with dove, slate and every grey eyeshadow in-between. Witness the wash of charcoal over the eyes at Burberry Prorsum, where Joan of Arc was top of mind. Choose three shades of grey to create smoky drama on your eyes, then rhyme it with a luscious, shiny pink lip colour. Dress, Arthur Mendonça. Earrings, Shannon Hazell. Beauty Treasures Red Earth Illusion Lights Beauty Pro Eyeshadow in Magical Moon, $14.50. Lancôme Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow in The New Blue and Ciel du Soir, $19.50 each.

ICE QUEEN
Makeup pros got into the “painterly” trend backstage, influenced by designers with an eye toward art history (Marc Jacobs’ ode to Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring at Louis Vuitton, for example). At shows such as Dolce & Gabbana, makeup artists created a 3-D effect using highlight and contour, instead of colour, to sculpt cheekbones, define eyes and shape the face. Translation? Features that pop. Today’s face primers that add gorgeous radiance are enough to awaken the inner artist in us all. Tunic, By Malene Birger. Headpiece, Lilliput Hats. Beauty Treasures Guerlain L’Or Radiance Concentrate with Pure Gold Make-up Base, $75. Kevyn Aucoin The Sculpting Powder in Medium, $50. DuWop Duet Gloss and Highlighter in Flora, $22. For where-to-buy, see Stylesource. Hair and makeup, Simone Otis, www.artistgrouplimited.com; fashion director, Elizabeth Cabral.
