Well before the last designer bow, an it colour emerged emerged: Makeup artists were still mad about blue, but not strictly last season’s cobalt. A soft aqua was blended on upper lids at Giorgio Armani, whereas an electric cat eye dominated at Jenny Packham, Versus and Christian Dior, which featured sapphire embellishments among other chromatic versions. Blue even cropped up at Michael Kors (where coloured eyeshadow is a rarity), thanks to Shiseido artistic director Dick Page’s “windshield wiper stripe” floating above the eyelid. “It’s a slightly cartoon gesture,” he says of the graphic mark. Similarly, vivid lips had an illustration-like quality. Manga char- acters inspired the fluorescent pink at Missoni; pop art prints informed the matte coral at Joe Fresh; and white above the Cupid’s bow outlined red lips at Prada for an oversized effect.
