Metal mania

Forget subtle shimmer; glitter is staging a comeback. Heavy hitters Chanel and Louis Vuitton went mad for shine. Don’t worry about precision; dab it on the centre of your eyelid or line your eyes roughly, above and below.

FLARE’s picks: Pout Satisfy Me Now pencil set, $38/3 pencils; Red Earth Nail Enamel in Shimmer, $10; The Body Shop Glitter Eye Liner in Star Light, $14.

Dance fever

For day, clamp down on your roots with a crimping iron, then slip the rest into a darling knot. For night, wear your hair down in waves, crimping random pieces throughout. (PS: Soft-pink lips and highlighted cheekbones go from ballet class to dance hall with ease.)

FLARE’s picks: M.A.C Mineralize Skinfinish in Lightscapade, $28.50, and M.A.C Lipstick in Danse, $16.50.

Colour harmony

Models at Emanuel Ungaro sported a myriad of spring hues, such as teal, peach and purple. If you don’t walk a runway for a living, try a khaki-and-gold combo, as seen at Donna Karan, for an acid-toned wash.

FLARE’s pick:Guerlain Divinora Radiant Colour Palette 4 Shade Eyeshadow in Touche de Bronze, $58.

Be-real makeup

It’s not dewy, it’s not matte—it’s your skin, only better. You can thank the latest foundation innovations that leave the sheerest finish, since that was the makeup du jour on international runways.

FLARE’s pick: Clinique Perfectly Real Compact Makeup, $30.

Sexy back

We spotted ultra-sleek Blade Runner-inspired hairdos and wondered, what’s behind the trend? “The ’60s-style flared dresses and empire waistlines of the season are big, so the [hair] stays small,” says Mathew Collins, ambassador technical consultant for L’Oréal and a backstage hair pro. Try your hair up and coiled into a woven bun or down and simply slicked back.

FLARE’s pick: L’Oréal Studio Line Invisi’FX Melting Gel, 150 mL, $5, controls flyaways without any stickiness.

Zinc lips

We’re loving the crop of neon coral, poppy and fuchsia lip colours that blasted off the runway. Keep eye makeup in neutral tones while sporting these smackers.

FLARE’s picks: Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Pure Lipstick SPF 8 in Papaya Orange, Pink Celebration and Candy Pink, $34 each.

Basic geometry

Karl Lagerfeld pushed the mod envelope with “three-step” hair, cut into hard angles. Off the runway, that equals a square-shaped bob or straight-cut bangs, as seen at Sophia Kokosalaki.

Band leader

The latest hairbands are bigger and bolder than the black bands of the past. We especially loved the bandeau versions in satin jewel tones at Prada and the electric neon ones at D&G, but the glitter of gold at Hermès sparks instant allure.

FLARE’s picks: Pout Satisfy Me Now pencil set, $38/3 pencils; Red Earth Nail Enamel in Shimmer, $10; The Body Shop Glitter Eye Liner in Star Light, $14.

Rock-star eyeliner

Every girl loves a little bad-gal makeup, especially the fashion set who party till dawn. Post-punk-loving model Behati Prinsloo says: “I love wearing eyeliner that’s still under my eye the next morning.” So does Charlotte Tilbury, the key makeup artist for M.A.C, who simulated the effect at DKNY. “With your finger, rub the black eyeliner from the inside out so it smudges down quite sexily, like you slept in it,” advises Tilbury.

FLARE’s pick: Benefit Eye Sketching Pencil in Onyx, $20.
