|Lisa’s Love Story|
When I was in my early 20s, I was living with a boyfriend. He was in his final year of university and we were broke. We managed to scrape enough cash together to pay the rent but beyond that things were pretty tight. Needless to say, I wasn’t expecting anything on Valentine’s Day (we had agreed in advance that there would be no flowers or dinner out that year).
On the morning of the 14th, I woke up to find my guy had already left for his early morning shift. That’s when I found my first dime store Valentine on our bedside table. You know the ones…they’re sold in books of 100, corny sayings and all, and little kids exchange them at school.
Later I found more Valentine’s, each with a personal handwritten message. One popped up in my cereal box, my makeup bag, my shoes, my wallet, between the pages of a book, the newspaper and magazines. He had hidden them all the night before and how he did it without my knowledge still makes me smile. In case you’re wondering, the relationship didn’t last but those sweet messages will remain in my heart forever.
Now it’s your turn. Share your love story with me.
