Q&A: Hairstylist John Steinberg Looks Back
“This haircut was called the tulip. [Toronto-raised, New York-based fashion photographer] Walter Chin didn't even have a studio. He was an apprentice for a photographer called Gerard Gentil. And I used to work with Gerard. And I said to Walter, "Do you want to do a test with me?" He said, you know, "I don't have a studio." I remember going into Gerard's studio at seven o'clock in the morning and Walter pulling down this piece of paper, and photographing this piece.”
