Jennifer Lawrence brought Dior couture drama to the 2013 Oscars (culminating in her big Best Actress win) and then promptly skipped off to Hawaii to film the next Hunger Games movie, Catching Fire. Now everyone’s favourite open-book it girl has resurfaced, revealing a new to-the-shoulder bob at the GLAAD Media Awards in L.A.
Lawrence is no stranger to hair evolution. Over the past two years she’s been a fresh-faced blonde bombshell with loose, sexy waves at the 2011 Oscars, a serious brunette in first Hunger Games film, a dark blonde with bangs and back to a deep chocolatey brunette in the Silver Linings Playbook. For the 2013 award show season, she returned to her more natural dark blond roots. Could her new cut be a way to combat damage from constant colouring? We’ll never know (unless she tells us, which is always an option with the hilariously outspoken actress).
While most celebrities—from Sarah Jessica Parker to Victoria Beckham and Cameron Diaz—have done some sort of above-the-shoulder style in the past, this new short cut is longer and less structured than the usual bob. This past fall, Olivia Wilde took the scissors to her hair and went shoulder length with tousled waves. Victoria’s Secret model Karlie Kloss also broke the mould and went short and wavy, causing a ruckus among naysayers who think short hair isn’t Angel material.
So, we have to ask the question: Is long hair on the way out? Our assistant news editor, Emily Ramshaw, certainly thinks so, as she recently chopped her waist-length hair into a shoulder bob, calling her previous length “boring.” Short hair is certainly having a moment, but in the end, you have to choose what suits you best and what will make you feel most comfortable. Some may be bolder than others and opt for a drastic change, while others may still be content with long locks. One thing’s for certain: It’s only a matter of time before Lawrence changes up her hair yet again, and we’ll be watching…and taking notes.
