A Vancouver native, Harry Josh earned his stripes taming tresses in one of Canada’s most humid cities. Now as International Creative Consultant for John Frieda and hairstylist to the stars—taming the tresses of Gisele Bundchen, Christy Turlington, Fergie, Ellen Pompeo and Kate Bosworth to name a few—Harry Josh sat down with to give us his A-list tested tips on shielding hair from summer’s relentless humidity.

3 steps to control frizzy hair in the summer
1) Start off by using a rich shampoo and conditioner. Extra conditioner is needed in hot summer months and will weigh the hair down on humid days.
2) After washing, while the hair is still damp, seal the cuticle with a good-quality serum. This is important because serum will give the appearance of flatter, silkier strands—resulting in a healthy shine.
3) Let your hair air-dry after applying the serum. Blow drying can wreak havoc on your hair during humid weather.

Emergency frizz fixes
If you’re caught outdoors and forgot to add serum to your hair, wrap your hair in a bun for an hour and then let it loose. For shorter hair, a dab of hand lotion will help to tame flyaways.

Hot summer hair trend
Beach waves are hot for summer (think: Gisele Bundchen). You can achieve this look by using tons of mousse on wet hair and then letting your hair air dry. Once it’s completely dry, wrap hair around a large barrel curling iron for about 15 seconds in random directions. If your hair is prone to falling flat, use a smaller iron. Do this in sections over your entire head to create the natural, wavy look.
