Grey Matter
After plucking her first grey hair in Grade 12, Anya Georgijevic took the dye-and-deny approach to mask her premature fade. Now, inspired by British Vogue’s fashion features director, Sarah Harris, she’s keen to show off her silver status, which happens to suit her cool, pale complexion. But getting there wasn’t easy: “It took 15 hours over three visits to lift her previous black dye,” says Redken colour expert Sean Godard, who created the looks for this story. “Between steps, we neutralized to control any orange, then finished with a pure silver toner.”

Hair History: “My natural shade is mousy brown, but I’ve been colouring it since I was 14. I’ve tried platinum, red, black and ombré.”
Revamp Reason: “I figure I’m about 30 percent grey now. Thanks to a few fine lines—my ‘baby face’ has finally caught up to my hair—I feel ready to embrace it.”
Pro Tip: Keep the tone cool, not brassy, with violet-tinted conditioner. Try Redken Blonde Idol Custom-Tone Conditioner in Violet, $30.
