| Hi everyone!
I am thrilled to have won the Flare.com Intern Video Search: Season One! I’ve always dreamed of interning at a publication like FLARE so you can imagine my excitement when Zdenka, the Senior Editorial Producer for Flare.com, had left a message with the good news. I started jumping up and down and could barely sleep that night! I felt so honoured that the panel of FLARE judges, who are my inspirations, selected me as the winner!
Fashion and writing were always my interests and majoring in English and Cultural Studies allowed me to study style and culture while building my writing skills. It gave me a unique balance in my creative and academic focus. During my studies, I lived in Toronto and became immersed in the city life. I worked at Zara as the Accessories and Footwear Collection Specialist and I had the opportunity to place weekly orders from our sample books and merchandise the products in the storefront. It was a very involved process that gave me a lot of insight into the fashion industry.
I knew that I needed experience that would relate more to the editorial field so I sent out resumes to different publications. I also enrolled in photography classes at George Brown to further heighten my skills. In April I was given the opportunity from Canoe.ca to fly to California to cover the Coachella Music and Arts Festival for the website. This experience was surreal. On top of photographing the event and writing the blog, I got to meet talented photographers and writers from various publications. They offered valuable advice and it ensured me that I wanted to work for a print and online publication.
I saw the posting for the Flare.com Intern Video Search on Flare.com, which I frequently browse. I decided to enter because I liked the idea of a video resume where the judges could see and hear my enthusiasm and passion for the industry. I was surprised to learn that the online department is run by three people. I think it’s incredible that a small team can maintain such a dynamic and interactive website! I’m thrilled to assist in researching upcoming features for the website. One of the amazing fashion interns, Jenny, has ensured me that everyone at FLARE is incredibly nice and that interning is tons of fun. I hope to be a great asset to FLARE and I’m counting the days until I start…
Talk to you later,
