Fall Runway Misses

Fall Runway Misses
Runway disasters from the Fall 2008 collections

Part of the fun of attending the international runway shows is spotting the nutty misses. While we love to be provoked and challenged by our favourite designers—schoolmarm lace? How fabulous!—sometimes the outfits they show are just plain weird.

Here, a handful of run-a-way disasters from the Fall 08 collections:

Martin Margiela

Looks like our girl lost a battle with her upholstery at Martin Margiela.

Miu Miu’s lace and scuba is cool but this cropped jumpsuit sinks on both counts.

I’m sure we all have a crochet poncho like this one at Martin Margiela hiding in the far depths of our closets, but leave it there. Don’t try this at home—ever.

Someone should tell Jean Paul Gaultier that furry animal heads should be left where they belong—in the wild on their rightful owner’s head.

Iceberg

Iceberg

Catwoman (starring Halle Berry) is one of the all-time worst movies I’ve ever seen and this little number from Iceberg does nothing to convince me otherwise.

Jeremy Scott

Perhaps this money-hungry number at Jeremy Scott should outfit the next villain in the Batman series?

We love Marni’s hand-crafty necklaces but the chiffon tuque is pure unadulterated geek—eek!

While I love the Wonder Woman vibe at Alessandro Dell’Acqua, the big old granny panties do nothing to make the look heroic.

Every single element of this Miss Sixty outfit is wrong. Be prepared for hysterical laughter from strangers if you rock this look.

Max Mara

I can just imagine the design thought at Max Mara: “We’re too conservative. Let’s be edgy and add a cape!” “Ah yes! Aren’t we brilliant?” No, you’re not. Back to classics, please!

Only a 6 foot tall model can pull off this oversized ensemble from Marc Jacobs. The rest of us: a pastel marshmallow blimp with a moldy growth on top.

From Junya Watanabe it’s the perfect headpiece to carry your tennis gear in.

Marios Schwab has created the perfect dress for my cheesy-loving six-year-old self!

Now that you’ve had a laugh thanks to the fall ’08 runway misses, stay tuned for the best of the runway in the August issue of FLARE, on newsstands July 14th.
