Barely There Yet Bold Makeup
“Black liner—and lots of it” is how Shiseido makeup artistic director Dick Page summed up the look he created at Marc by Marc Jacobs. Dark cream encircled eyes for a moody contrast to the otherwise bare faces, a bold statement we also saw at Erdem and Roland Mouret. Putting the focus on just one feature is a Page trademark, a method he calls “single-gesture makeup.” “It’s what a young girl might do,” he explained. “You don’t do the whole face soup to nuts.” But a little pro know-how helps when it comes to choosing the right tools: “When you’re working on the waterline, you don’t want anything too sharp,” said Page, who used a fluffy lip brush to paint cream liner along inner rims. Pairing the look with pigtail plaits for the runway aced the balance of sweet and strong.
