Newsflash from the makeup artists backstage at spring’s runways: Time to switch up the smoky eye routine. While we love adding depth by blending shadow into the outer crease, how about highlighting a different part of the eye for a change?
For a very literal take on “inner beauty,” makeup pros painted the inside corner of models’ eyes with shadows in all shades and textures. At Giorgio Armani, eyes were darkened with midnight hues blended into the inner corner, while at Peter Pilotto, frosty lilac lit up the area. At both shows, the lid was left mostly untouched, unlike at Mark Fast, where lids were coated in black shadow but treated to a bright pop of sparkle in the inner corner. This trend steals a page from the makeup pro book of tricks, where white shadow is applied to the inner corner to brighten eyes.
Light or dark, sparkly or matte, this versatile look is fun and fresh. A nice perk? You don’t have to shell out money on new products, seeing as how it’s about changing where you apply, rather than what you apply. Feeling inspired? Tell us how you’ll try this eye-opening trick.
