London Fashion Week Spring 2013 has now wrapped up, but we’re still scratching our heads at some of the beauty looks that appeared on the runway — we’re talking huge hair, facial drawings, gray-ish highlights and painted complexions.
The biggest statement by far was made by Vivienne Westwood Red Label, where models sported curled wigs, garish blue eyeshadow and hot pink lips. Select faces were also painted yellow, green or orange. The looks were a mockery of Ladies Who Lunch… or maybe just a showcase of prim drag-queen librarians breaking out of their shells.
At Louise Gray and Fyodor Golan, the face was used as a blank page for sketching. Gray’s models had cartoon-y brows and faux beauty spots drawn on their skin, while Golan’s troupe flaunted pointed navy goatees. Outrageous hair made an appearance in the form of curly triangular coifs at Mark Fast, and spectacular Daphne Guinness-esque rockabilly styles created with black hairpieces for Aminaka Wilmont. The models at Ashish wore frosty pink lipstick fittingly paired with topknots and giant scrunchies.
Though certainly eye-catching, these looks are best left to the catwalk. Seriously: Do not try at home… unless you’re already searching for a Halloween costume.
