When it comes to salon styling, Canada’s got some serious talent. I know this for a fact after having had the chance to join the online judging panel today for the 22nd annual Canadian Hairstylists of the Year Awards (also known as the Contessas to industry professionals and hair enthusiasts). I pored over more than 400 photos, examining the originality, creativity, fashion appeal, model suitability, technical execution, photography, makeup, wardrobe and overall concept of the photos, which were divided amongst 19 categories covering hair styling, hair colour and makeup looks created by entrants from across the country.
While I can’t share any specific details about this year’s submissions (let alone who will win the coveted crystal Contessa trophies), I can say that I saw some phenomenal work and was left feeling unusually inspired to twist and tease my hair to new heights.
The winner of each category will be revealed at the Contessa Awards gala, taking place at The Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto on November 14. The winning work will be displayed that night as well as in the “Contessas Collectors Edition” of Salon Magazine.
