April 2008

Most of us will be taking extended lunch breaks since Leon Kang, owner and visionary of Smyth and Kang, recently opened a second location in the centre of downtown. Located outside of the Grand Theatre at 610 1 Street SW, these digs offer more tailored and exclusive lines for work and play, including knits by Mike & Chris, coats by Mackage and separates from newer lines such as Whistle and Flute. Drop by on April 25th for all-day grand opening celebrations. WHO

The latest addition to Calgary’s eastside and soon to be an addiction is Liv Spa. This modern urban oasis adds the L back in Luxury with its mineral pool (the only in Western Canada) of imported sea water from France to replenish the body’s nutrients. We love the one-of-a-kind caviar facial and for those who can’t sit still for more than an hour, private yoga sessions and training in a mini gym are also available. WHAT

Jackie O put Marimekko on the international design map when she sported their bold, bright prints during the 60’s. Now is our chance to turn heads in Marimekko with H&M’s A Tribute to Marimekko collection. The H&M design team researched the Marimekko archive to create 50 bold statement-making pieces for men and women, including vibrant tunics, apron tops, shorts and tees. The collection arrives mid-April in Calgary at Market Mall and Edmonton at West Edmonton Mall. WEAR

If you already have a ticket to BELLA 2008—one of Calgary’s hottest fundraising events—consider yourself lucky. If not then I suggest you act now. 800 attendees will enjoy an extravagant evening of fashion in support of Calgary’s Women’s Heart Initiative (WHI).
