How to break up with someone you love
Need to break free from a relationship that will be hard to leave? Do these four things…
This breakup isn’t coming out of nowhere. You’ve been thinking about it for a while. Having been back and forth or sitting on the fence for so long, you’re now questioning your decision. But follow your gut. If you’ve been contemplating a breakup, there’s a reason. Don’t cheat yourself out of being fully satisfied.
Put your feelings on the table. Be clear about what you want and what the relationship is missing. Offer him the opportunity to explain himself, but don’t lose sight of your goals. If he isn’t giving (or very soon going to give) you what you want, get out.
Cut all ties
• Don’t pick up or return his calls.
• Delete his number from your cell.
• Erase him from your address book.
• Take him off your email list.
• Don’t talk to his family.
(And do NOT drink and dial.)
Sure there’s no rush, but we all know the best way to get over someone is to meet someone else. Instead of curling up at home, questioning your decision, and crying to a pint of ice cream on Friday nights, get back out there. Enjoy this time solo (it may not last long) and concentrate on moving forward with your life.
