Birchbox, the mail-order makeup service, finally launched in Canada last month, so early adopters will get their first parcel right around when Santa comes. Pay $14.95 a month, get a pile of purse-size testers. If you like one of the samples, you can buy the full-size version on birchbox.ca. If you don’t, at least you haven’t dropped $50+ on one product. The cool thing I’ve just discovered are the exclusives you won’t be able to buy anywhere else. For example, this Cynthia Rowley Beauty holiday collection, which reminds me of the NYC designer’s dress shop on Bleecker Street. The Beauty Confetti bag (see top left) is a perfect example of Rowley’s whimsical prints. I love that she’s brought that totally doable colour to a range of eyeshadow palettes, eyeliners and lip stains. Along with classic black liquid liner, there’s also navy, grey, brown or cobalt. Pair it with a red lip stain, or try the berry. With the minis, you might not even mind scribble-doodling your options before you try them on your face. The Cynthia Rowley Beauty Collection ($18-$52) is available now on birchbox.ca.
