Question: I love the look of hairbands, but how do I wear them properly? I have long wavy hair but I don’t have a big forehead. Sometimes I straighten it and sometimes I curl it. I’ll be travelling to Europe in August and want to have a fab look. What’s a hot look? Thick hairband? Thin? With a scarf attached? In a ponytail or down? HELP!
A thick hairband with sparkling jewels is in (we saw this look on the Spring 2007 runways at Louis Vuitton and Sonia Rykiel). See page 84 of our May 2007 issue for tips on how to make your own glimmering hairband on the cheap. To really make this hair accessory stand out, pull your hair back into a casual chignon. You could also try wearing a couple of thin hairbands in a bright shade set an inch or two apart (we spotted this look at the Spring 2007 Valentino show). Try elastic hair bands that encompass your entire head and secure them with a bobby pin if necessary but it sounds like your thick and wavy hair should keep them in place. In a hurry? Try a low ponytail (instead of a chignon) and you’ll look just as chic.
FYI: Europe can be really hot and humid in August so try not to fight your natural hair texture. Simply smooth in an anti-frizz cream, style your hair into a laissez-faire ponytail or chignon, add your hairband and go enjoy the sights!
