Ah, summertime: The season of cut-offs, bare feet and roughed-up braids. And what better place to fly your hippie flag than at one of Canada’s hottest folk, country, blues or jazz festivals? The days will be filled with sweet tunes; they’ll also likely be long, hot and crowded, so make sure you’re prepped with some of our favourite beauty products. They’ll leave you prettified, refreshed and ready to go all day (and night) long.

Makeup Stash: A laid-back weekend fest is the place to keep makeup simple. Try a lightweight BB cream with SPF to protect your skin and choose waterproof formulas as much as possible since you’ll probably be dancing/sweating/caught in the rain. Multi-coloured eyeshadow—as in Stila’s Festival of Color Collection—is fetching, not far out. Don’t let the swirl of shades put you off; the shadow is easy to apply and pairs well with Dior’s new Lip Glow lip gloss, which enhances natural lip colour.

Dior Addict Lip Glow, $32, M.A.C False Lashes Waterproof, $24, Stila Countless Color Pigments in Tie Dye, $29, at Shoppers Drug Mart and Murale. L’Occitane Angelica Iris Sublime Beauty Cream, $42,

Hair Buys: Camping out? Pack dry shampoo to revive and texturize days-old hair and be sure to use a protective UV filter spray, since sun damages strands, too. Add a little flash of colour with clip-in extensions if you’re feeling free. A music fest is the perfect place to break out all the unused hair, beauty and fashion items that seem too much for day-to-day wear.

Garnier Fructis Volume Extend Instant Bodifier Dry Shampoo, $7, at mass market retailers. Phyto Paris Phytoplage Protective Sun Oil, $29/100mL, Sultra Hair Extensions in Ocean Teal Solid, $11,

Useful Extras: Whether you’re camping or rocking out for hours outdoors, bring along facial towelettes to cleanse your face of the day’s makeup and grime without having to wait in line at the bathrooms. Keep sunscreen in your bag to reapply every few hours and a mini-pack of hand wipes for each visit to the Porta Potties. A protective anti-perspirant is key, since personal space doesn’t exist close to the stage.

Yes to Cucumbers Soothing Facial Towelettes, $3/10, at Shoppers Drug Mart. Clean Well All-Natural Hand Sanitizing Wipes, $4/10, Nivea Stress Protect Anti-Perspirant/Deodorant Roll-On, $5, at mass market retailers in July. Victoria’s Secret Broad Spectrum SPF 24 Body Lotion, $15,
