Spring isn’t the only time of year to clean and organize. Fall marks the beginning of a new climate—and most importantly, a new fashion season. Not only should you clean out your closet, making room for cozy knits but it’s the perfect time to take a second look at what’s in your makeup bag. Some of the cosmetics and skincare you’ve been using throughout the warm weather months can be stored or likely thrown out, if the expiration date is within the next six months.
Here’s our list of what to keep, what to buy, what to try and what to store or trash.
Keep: Your BB Creams. Fall beauty is all about flawless, radiant skin.
Buy: Translucent powder to layer over your foundation or BB Cream base for a smooth, satiny finish.
Try: Clinique Blended Face Powder and Brush.
Store: Shimmery bronzers. They can keep for about 18 months.
Keep: Red or bright berry lipsticks. Bold lips continue into fall but in richer hues that look a little smudged.
Buy: Add to your colour collection with a Bordeaux or bold eggplant lipstick.
Try: Dolce & Gabbana Monica Voluptuous Lipstick in Magnetic Monica.
Store: Lip liner. Fall’s look is all about slightly unfinished lips so tap and blend your lipstick with fingers and skip the liner. You can keep lip liners for two years.
Keep: Sunscreen that hasn’t expired. You need it all year long (even in the winter).
Buy: A moisturizer with sunscreen in it, but remember that the sunscreen will wear off by midday so if you’re sitting on a patio at lunch, you’ll need to reapply.
Try: B.Kamins Matte Moisturizer SPF 15
Trash: Expired sun products. Check the dates on the ones you have so you don’t mistakenly use them again next year.
Keep: Nude and peach eyeshadows with or without a bit of shimmer. They’re a great way to add dimension to next season’s natural, nude and matte complexions.
Buy: Metallic cream shadows for a futuristic fall look.
Try: Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream eyeshadow in True Silver Shimmer
Store: The candy-coloured bright eyeshadows you wore for spring. Liquid shadows will keep for one year, powders for two.
