Guido Palau is hands down the all star of backstage interviews. He’s insanely talented to be sure, and he could practically be a beauty editor himself the way he dishes sound bites and story angles. Palau is known for his hyper version of retro hairstyles: they’re big and they’re mean. They’re all over international editions of big-wig magazines and high falutin’ ad campaigns.
Today he created a sporty chic ponytail at Marc by Marc Jacobs inspired by, well…himself. Marc’s key words to Palau were: your own work, circa 1990s. The design crew at Marc by Marc literally showed Palau pics of his own work back in the Kate Moss days when hairstylists were re-inventing the ponytail doing double and triple ties within the pony and combining basic Goody barrettes with hair ties.
It was much more clean and put together than the downtown messy chic looks the Redken pro usually creates for the youth-obsessed brand, yet perfectly suited to the sportif clothing.
Can’t wait to see what he does next.
