FLARE staffers are rarely buzzing around the beauty department competing for my attention, but that’s what happened when Gwen Stefani’s Harajuku Lovers Fragrances landed on my desk. Don’t mistake this collection of five scents—Love, Lil’ Angel, Music, Baby and G, $49 each—as simply something pretty to look at or part deux to the music and style mogul’s first scent success, L, a L.A.M.B. Fragrance by Gwen Stefani. The singer, along with a helping hand from her fragrance makers, Coty, recruited a seasoned group of perfumers to mix up five delicious and very different spritzes to express her Harajuku (versus her glam L.A.M.B.) world.

When I sat down with Stefani during the launch in New York City, she confessed she’s hooked on Baby: “I’ve always wanted that signature baby-powder smell without smelling too much exactly like a baby. It had to be sophisticated.” White rose, orange flower and white musk notes add grown-up style to an otherwise sweetly scented spritz. And hubby Gavin Rossdale? He likes G, a tasty cocktail with coconut and soft freesia that Gwen wore every day while she was waiting for baby Zuma to arrive. Always honest, she said, “I’m pregnant and the fragrance world has been something I’ve been staying away from because it makes me [queasy] when I smell stuff. But now that I’m further along, I’ve been wearing G a lot.”

Although I’m personally addicted to Love (a fresh and sexy floral), there’s plenty of aromatic ammo to get turned on to in Lil’ Angel (a fruity floral) and Music (a subtle floral), too. —Juliette Baxter
