Our resident relationship expert answers your toughest romantic questions

Q: I’m having problems with this guy who I’ve been with for nine years now. He isn’t as supportive as he used to be and we fight about frivolous things all the time. What’s going on?

A: The strain in your relationship is coming from somewhere, whether it’s obvious or not. How are things with his career? Are you super stressed in your day-to-day life? What about family or friend pressures? Talk about your relationship concerns with your guy and try figuring out a solution together.

Q: I met my boyfriend through a group of friends. We had all been hanging out for about five months before my boyfriend and I started hooking up. It was an infatuation that had been building up, and for the first three or four weeks, we couldn’t take our hands off each other. It’s been two and a half months now and the infatuation has worn off. Things have gotten boring. He’s a really great guy, and I want to continue a relationship with him. How do I keep both of us interested?

A: Things are boring and you want to keep seeing him? Sounds like you need a reality check. Either that or the two of you started off too strong and now have nowhere to go. If you want to keep the relationship going, you’ve got to find some common ground that’s not sexual. Find things to do together that will build a friendship and teach you more about each other.
