Here Are Some of the Women Competing for Bachelor Matt James’s Heart

Including a Canadian and one of the lead's exes (!!)

We’re less than a week out from the October 13 premiere date of Season 16 of The Bachelorette; a season that already sounds like it’s going to be one for the books. (ICYMI, it’s pretty much been confirmed that initial season lead Clare Crawley ends filming less than two weeks in, having found the love of her life at an accelerated pace, leading producers to swap in fan favourite Tayshia Adams as the second lead for the season.) It’s *a lot* to take in and we can’t wait to see the drama play out on our TV screens.

Something else we can’t wait to see? Matt James’s season of The Bachelor. Set to begin filming at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Pennsylvania the second week of October, James’s season reportedly won’t be premiering until 2021—but that doesn’t mean we don’t already have a ton to talk about. On October 5, ABC gave fans a sneak peek at the 43 women who *may* be vying for the history-making Bachelor’s heart.

We are giving you an early look at the women who may be on this season of #TheBachelor in 2021! Leave a 🌹 for who would get your first impression rose.

Don’t overlook that *may be* wording—the franchise will eventually whittle down the 43 women to around 30 (after quarantining and fan social media skulking concludes). So don’t get too attached to these ladies quite yet. While we may not be seeing all of these women on night one of the premiere, one thing’s for sure: James’s season appears to be the most racially diverse yet, with Bachelor Nation expert Reality Steve (AKA Stephen Carbone) stating 28 of the 43 women aren’t “VANILLA white girls.” And for anyone who’s been following along with the franchise for the past 40 plus seasons—that’s a big deal. (Next up, let’s work on body diversity as well, OK Mike Fleiss?).

James’s season may not be airing for a few months still, but there are already some signs of serious ~drama~. (Seriously, am I maybe more excited for James’s season than Crawley’s now?)

Here, everything to know about the women who are already creating a buzz.

Katie Thurston

Because this is 2020, it was only a matter of time before a TikTok star made their crossover to The Bachelor.  And no, you won’t be seeing Charli D’Amelio on your screens come 2021, but you will see Katie Thurston. Under @ventwithkatie—the 29-year-old’s now-private TikTok account—Thurston has racked up over 233k followers and 1.2 million likes on the video app.

How much do you want to bet that Thurston’s entrance will include some sort of TikTok dance?

A post shared by KIT CLEMENTINE KEENAN (@kitkeenan) on

The baby of the season, New York City native Kit Keenan is an influencer and podcaster, who co-hosts the Ageless podcast with her mom. And before you go thinking this is an Addison Rae and Sheri Nicole situation (the mother-daughter duo host a podcast in which Nicole gives out motherly advice), it should be noted that Keenan’s mom is fashion designer Cynthia Rowley.

But it’s not her famous mom that has Keenan getting attention: Her (potential) casting is stirring up drama online over her young age. (She’s 21.) Shortly after Reality Steve tweeted about Keenan’s involvement in the show, she was hit with backlash from people online saying she’s too young and (in the oh-so-famous Bachelor phrase) “not there for the right reasons.” To which Carbone pretty much replied with, “duh.” Because, honestly, who even *is* on this show for the right reasons? Unless the “right reasons” means a Revolve partnership and guaranteed podcast show….

In general, people online seem to be pretty hung up on the women’s ages across the board. But the majority of the women on the show are in their early to mid twenties—which, as Carbone pointed out, isn’t unusual, tweeting: “I’m still amazed at the amount of people that comment on these women’s ages or their IG followings. Matt is 28. No one in this cast isn’t age appropriate for him. The cast for the Bachelor has ALWAYS been a majority of 23-37 year olds, no matter who was the lead.”

Plus, it’s not really fair of anyone to surmise who’s ready to get married or dictate that a young age prohibits them from being ready. Just look at former contestant Bekah Martinez, who at 22 on Ari Luyendyk’s season was told she was too young for marriage by pretty much everyone around her. She’s now in a long-term relationship and has two kids.

The real tea when it comes to Keenan? The fact that Bachelor insiders are hinting that *perhaps* she had a history with former lead Nick Viall.  In an Instagram story post after the ladies were released, Bachelor Nation podcast Date Card re-posted a photo and tweet of Keenan, writing: “Cough cough NICK VIALL Cough cough.”

Hmmm…I wonder if this will come up at all this season. (JK, *obviously* it’ll come up.)

Madison Nelson

Keenan is not the only one of James’s potential lovers with a Bach Nation history. James himself previously dated one of the contestants! According to Carbone, 27-year-old Madison Nelson dated James during the summer of 2019. In case you forgot, that was a BIG summer for James and his BFF Tyler Cameron, who was dating model Gigi Hadid at the time. According to reports (and old social media posts), Nelson went with James to one of Hadid’s fashion shows, and the pair dated pretty seriously for several months.

Which can only mean two things: Drama and intrigue! Why did the former couple break-up? What will James’s reaction be to her limo exit? Will this be another Kelly Flanagan and Peter Weber situation? (Fingers crossed it’s not, or else this is just another wasted season.) Only time (and Realty Steve) will tell!

Serena Pitt

While there hasn’t been *too* much tea about contestant Serena Pitt just yet; this super cutie should be on your radar solely for the fact that she’s Canadian! Hailing from Markham, Ont., 25-year-old Pitt seems to be the only Canadian set to potentially forge a love connection with hunky James.
