Bachelor Nation

Bachelor Nation's Ashley I. and Jared Are Engaged and We. Just. Can't.

Less than a month after officially confirming they're dating, Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon are engaged. But is it for the right reasons?

Ashley Iaconetti and Jared Haibon are engaged—with Haibon reportedly getting down on one knee (with a Neil Lane sparkler, but of course) during the upcoming season of Bachelor in Paradise.

Cynical opinion alert, but something about this (literally) made-for-TV relationship doesn’t quite pass the #authentic test for us. Trust us, we’re the first to want to believe in *true love*, but this particular whirlwind romance feels just a little too Disney-fied, even for the most heart emoji-eyed members of Bachelor Nation. Hear us out as we break down why we’re just a wee bit dubious.

1) The drawn out ‘will-they-won’t-they?’

In case you’re not up on your Bachelor history, Ashley I. and Jared have been an on/off thing since 2015, when they met on Bachelor In Paradise. (FYI: Ashley was on Chris Soules’s season and Jared on Kaitlyn Bristowe’s, which followed immediately after.) Ashley fell in love at first sight—having just seen him on television—but Jared wasn’t quite so hooked. They were kind of a thing on the show but broke up while still in Paradise. Then, they kinda/sorta got back together after Paradise, and had a proper first date in 2016, but broke up before the third season of BIP, which—surprise!—they both appeared in. This time though, they dated other people (Caila and Wells) but neither relationship lasted. Throughout this all, Ashley  cried many, many tears. Fast forward to January 2018, and Jared finally admits he has feelings for Ashley. Why are we telling you all this? Well, even if all of this hadn’t played out on national television and social media, we’d still be calling this hot/cold pattern as a warning sign of a relationship that is at very best tumultuous/moving too fast/boasts at least one commitment-phobe.

2) Their serial contestant status

Since their relationship is playing out in a very, very public way, we can’t help but raise the idea that perhaps this is an engagement of… convenience? We realize that The Bachelor is an all-consuming vortex (and hey, it can be very lucrative one, #ad) but Ashley I. and Jared stand out among their peers for their sheer persistence with the franchise. In addition to the appearances listed above, Jared appeared on another season of Bachelor in Paradise (but it was in Australia) and Ashley appeared on Bachelor: Winter Games. And even when *not* on television, their relationship has played out in an incredibly public way. (Case in point: the couple’s 44-minute-long “Story of Us” vid, which is not weird at all, right?) Devil’s advocate, of course, says that they’re just giving the people invested in their relationship what they want, but still… Ashley told the internet she was engaged before she told her GRANDMA.

3) The super-quick engagement

Which brings us to now. If Ashley and Jared don’t do the damn thing on live television—following a healthy serving of wedding-related #sponcon—we will be legitimately shook. Well played, you crazy kids.
