Finally, after a week of speculation we can all mark our calendars because William and Kate have set a date! The royal wedding will take place on Friday, April 29th 2011 at the historic London church Westminster Abbey, the same venue that William’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth held her wedding at in 1947. Unlike his mother’s wedding, which was held at St.Paul’s Cathedral in front of over 3,500 guests, the couple chose Westminster Abbey for its intimate feel. The event will be a “semi-state affair” but it will be paid for privately—this includes Kate’s gown of course. There are still no details on the gown but according to British Vogue, British designer Amanda Wakeley is a favourite. Prime Minister David Cameron confirmed that the wedding day would be a public holiday in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to encourage people to join in on the celebration.
