Q: I’m on the job hunt this summer. What do I wear that’s fashionable yet professional?

A: What not to wear is often easier to outline. On FLARE’s lists of don’ts: flip-flops, Crocs, ripped jeans, denim shorts, chipped nails, exposed lingerie and/or makeup experiments. Regardless of the type of job you’re after, you still want to express your individuality through your style. If your job is more corporate then avoid looking like you borrowed your mother’s suit. And if you’re working in a more creative field, you should still look like you mean business. Either way, it’s important to keep your eye on the ball and not to over or under dress for the position you’re after. Here’s what to wear for both types of office settings:

For corporate job settings, the jacket reigns supreme. There were a myriad of options on the catwalk, from the long and loose boyfriend jackets at Stella McCartney to Gucci’s cropped and colorful blazer. Of course, Chanel’s iconic tweed jacket is an investment piece that never goes out of style. Punchy brights like blue or red are energetic while neutrals offer a dose of refinement. Pair them with silk blouse and smart pencil skirt or ankle baring trouser.

Here’s what to accessorize them with:

CREATIVE CAREER GIRL

Creative fields allow you to play up your personal style and experiment with texture, shape, and pattern. A bold topper paired with an architectural skirt a la Hanii Y or Phillip Lim’s sculpted blouse are highly individualistic and will set you apart from the crowd (not to mention the other candidates). Take a cue from Marni and keep it sleek and polished with sharp accessories in a bold neutral.

Here’s what to accessorize them with:
