Former investment banker Amanda He decided to follow her creative impulse and launched Rocaille Jewelry in spring 2010. The Vancouver-based designer searches the world for antique items delved from vintage stores, markets and private collections to create jewelry that doubles as works of art.
Inspired by the past—“Rocaille” refers to the extravagant romance of 18th-century European style—each one-of-a-kind piece is crafted from vintage elements and named after a historical female ruler. Who wouldn’t want to channel Marie Antoinette every now and then? The glamorous necklaces and bracelets feature intricate and opulent details, mixing layered chains from the 70s, art-deco pendants and mid-century baubles to form something completely new. —Sara Constantineau
