Katya Revenko debuted her Desperately Different line in 2006 and her succeeding collections have lived up to their name. The Toronto-based designer, who got her start as a wardrobe stylist and costume designer in the Ukraine where she grew up, is known for her unique designs mixing avant-garde details with classical silhouettes. Her avant-garde aesthetic is reflected in Spring 2009’s dhoti pants, jersey jumpers, and deconstructed leggings. Eco-enthusiasts will also love Revenko’s liberal use of Lyocell in her collection. (Sustainable translation: it’s made from wood pulp).
