A popular girl on Canada’s fashion block for the past decade, designer Allison Smith’s collections have that laid-back cool that mixes a keen knowledge of fashion—Smith often uses legendary style icons like Audrey Hepburn for inspiration—with an inherent sense of true personal style. After studying fashion at Vancouver’s Kwantlen College followed by a stint working in the industry in Montreal, Smith returned to the West Coast, launching Allison Wonderland in 1998. Skirts, like the high-waisted “Picnic Skirt,” are feminine without being too girly, and blouses, like the printed “Moshi Moshi Top,” are playful, yet versatile. The brand’s signature coats, which include everything from houndstooth blazers to the recent “Rainy Day Coat” in magenta, have been snapped up by fashion-forward girls nationwide who want to keep that whimsical statement piece in their grown-up wardrobe.
