Mixing feminine floral prints with sharper, structured silhouettes, Karamea’s Spring 2009 collection exudes a striking contrast that has come to characterize the Toronto-based brand. Designer Michelle Turpin, who named the label after her New Zealand hometown, is known for a rich color and pattern sense as well as her impeccable bias cuts which have punctuated previous collections. A former costume designer, Turpin launched the label in 2004, turning heads with Asian-themed tunic dresses, angora jackets, and chiffon halter sundresses.
