Toronto-based gemologist John De Jong’s creations have been described
as “minimalist luxury”, simple designs that showcase eye-catching
vibrant colored stones, from pink sapphire to aquamarine briolette.
Citing Florence as his inspiration, De Jong earned a gemological degree
from the Gemological Institute of America, in addition to a BA in Art
History from Boston College. He launched his couture-inspired
collection in 1995, founding his first high-end boutique in Lausanne,
Switzerland, followed by his Yorkville boutique in Toronto a year
later. And while girly-girls love his ultra-feminine pieces adorned
with diamonds, pearls and precious stones – the princess cut
multi-color sapphire stacking rings are a case in point – lower
maintenance ladies will also appreciate his more understated designs,
like the cocobolo and ebony sevilla detail cuffs, which have serious
potential to never leave your wrist.
