Clad in “Addicted To Biddell” t-shirts, models in Evan Biddell’s 2008
runway debut at L’Oreal Fashion Week, made a statement that many across
the country would echo. The Saskatoon-native, who gained national
attention by winning the first Project Runway Canada
competition, is known for edgy, attention-grabbing pieces that merge
high fashion with sustainability, like his popular bamboo gown.
Biddell, who has no formal fashion training, relies on organic cottons,
natural silks, and small production to keep his lines eco-friendly. But
don’t expect Birkenstocks and burlap - his Spring 2009 collection
featured impeccably tailored high-waisted dark denim, jumbo-eyelet
dhoti pants, and gingham bubble-hem dresses that emphasized his street
couture style.
