British clothes retailer Topshop has announced plans to open locations in Canada, via a franchising deal with the Hudson’s Bay Company.
Operating as either stand-alone stores or shop-in-shops inside the Bay’s stores, we can expect Topshop, and its menswear counterpart Topman, as early as this fall. “Our first three are planned for Toronto, then Vancouver and then Montreal,” Bay CEO Bonnie Brooks explained to WWD. “In three to five years, we could have as many as 30 to 50.”
Although the initial locations have not yet been officially revealed, sources believe the first Topshops–aside from a concession in Toronto at Jonathan & Olivia and another a SSense in Montreal–will open in Ontario inside the Bay stores on Bloor St. and Yonge St, as well as in the Yorkdale and Sherway Gardens malls. They could be as large as 15,000 square feet and house men’s, women’s and accessories departments and will receive new deliveries twice a month.
