Since launching Blog Watch, we’ve had the opportunity to share with you some of our favourite bookmarks across the web. In turn, many of you have tweeted, commented and emailed us your links and we’ve been clicking.

Today, we’re featuring Meagan Morrison of Travel Write Draw who posted her link on our Facebook page. The Canadian artist, who now resides in New York, has only been blogging for a few months now but has captured the attention of illustrators across the web.

Her brush stroked prints and hand drawn sketches captivated our attention at first click. Here, the rising talent shares how she turned her love for drawing into a career of choice:

On starting her blog
I began just before my 25th birthday this past September 2010. With the big quarter-life landmark facing me I started thinking a lot about what I wanted to do with my career. In a moment of pure honesty with myself, I realized that what I wanted to do, what I longed to do, was draw from my travels and share them with the world hence ‘Travel Write Draw’. I felt like if I made a blog devoted to my three loves then maybe I would start to manifest my own destiny, a life filled with my true passions.

On her design aesthetic
I bring the world to my wardrobe and to my illustrations. For example, I can take photos of my travels through Turkey and use them as reference for backgrounds, or textiles, in my art. It’s never just about fashion garments; it’s always cultural too.

On illustrating as a career
Through trial and error at many jobs, I discovered the field of Fashion Illustration. It was as if a light went off. From that moment on I knew what I wanted to be. Shortly thereafter I moved to New York to pursue my Fashion Illustration AAS degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology and never looked back.

On her greatest achievement to date
It would definitely be having four of my illustrations blown-up and featured in two consecutive shows at the W New York Times Square’s fashion illustration exhibition this past April and May.
