Finding Fergie
Find out how Stacy Ferguson worked her way to the top.

She’s got the pipes, she’s got the fame and she’s definitely got the style, but what Fergie, aka Stacy Ann Ferguson, aka the “Dutchess” of pop, doesn’t have is the celebutante drama. Thankfully, not anymore. Sure, she’s had to overcome countless challenges and jump a number of career hurdles—from supposed drug use to the criticism she received when she first joined The Black Eyed Peas—but Fergie Ferg has managed to turn her beat around, big time.

While her latest hit single, “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” is currently burning up the top-20 charts (four months and counting), she’s also feeling the love of domestic bliss with her boyfriend, actor Josh Duhamel (whom she guested with on an episode of his TV show, Las Vegas). And as if that’s not enough, Fergie is branching out into fashion, designing a line of handbags for Kipling (landing in stores in Canada this fall) and putting her name to a line of relaxed streetwear for the Danish label Blend. Not to mention she’s spending the rest of the year touring around the world with The Black Eyed Peas and doing her fair share of solo shows.

All those professional and personal coups seem to suit Fergie just fine. During FLARE’s cover shoot, the blue-eyed beauty was all smiles and laughter, vibrant and ready to turn it on, even after performing the night before. And it was precisely on her first of six outfits—a short, streamlined metallic black dress by Italian designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua—that all 5’4” of her kicked it into high gear. As soon as she stepped out of her dressing room and entered the all-white set, Ms. F tossed a few theatrical diva-esque poses toward the lens. It’s all in the name of irony, of course, because that overplayed term—diva—is the last word that comes to mind when you’re granted a private audience with Fergie. She’s one of those charismatic, grounded types who embraces every opportunity she’s given to perform and knows there are other people riding, and banking, on her energy.
