Education: Bachelors in fine arts from Bard College.
When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a ballerina. I studied ballet for a long time as a kid.
How did you end up forging your own career path?
I didn’t think I would end up with multiple careers. I worked a lot of corporate jobs growing up, but I graduated college at the height of the economic decline in the U.S., and those kind of jobs weren’t available. I did some DJing in college so I started to do that to make money, and I realized it was a path that I could really grow in. I like setting goals and attacking them, so that was also motivation for going into an unconventional career path.
You now have many job titles, so when people ask what you do, what do you say?
I say that I’m a DJ and that I’m the founder of a wellness startup called HBFIT.
What is your typical work schedule like?
In the morning I try to do something exploratory, whether it’s trying out a new fitness routine or meeting with the founder of a gym or wellness line. I get to the office everyday around midday and I always leave time to create content. My DJ career only really exists in the afternoon for the most part and every week it’s different. I could go days without DJing or I could DJ five times in one week. It really just depends. So I need to be flexible in my schedule.
How do you juggle having multiple jobs?
I guess I’ve just learned the skills of time management. For me, it’s really about prioritizing. I also have a great team of people around me.
How do you start your day?
A morning workout definitely gets me ready and in the zone. I also make a matcha latte for myself almost every morning—that’s my 20 minutes I take for myself to open my computer and go over some things that I didn’t get through the day before.
What is your favourite workout jam right now?
I’ve been really into “WTF” by Missy Elliott. It’s great for a fun cardio workout.
What is the key to managing multiple careers successfully?
I’m really committed to everything I do and I live very much in the present. When I’m DJing, that’s all I’m thinking about. When I’m doing my show for POPSUGAR, that’s what’s going on. Same goes for when I’m creating content. It’s all about dedication and hard work.
You have a massive social media following, how do you decide what to post?
Everything I post is pretty much all about positive messaging. I know what people like to see from me—things like beauty photos, fashion, food, workouts and DJing—so, I try to keep reinventing within those categories.
What’s the best part of your day?
I share an office with my fiancé [DJ and entrepreneur Brendan Fallis] and his employees and I love when we’re all there together and brainstorming and motivating each other.
What’s the worst part of your day?
I wouldn’t say “worst,” but if it’s been a long day and I didn’t have time for a nap or to take half an hour for myself, it can feel like a lot. I’ll hit an afternoon wall before I get that second wind.
In this self-made career, how do you stay motivated?
I follow a lot of motivational people on Instagram and other social media, like the Tone It Up girls, plant-based recipe creator Taline Gabriel and super stylish Aimee Song. I believe that when you surround yourself with positivity, it leads to positive things.
Who do you look to for #CareerInspo?
There are a lot of women I look up to, like Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Jessica Alba, who co-founded a non-toxic household product company. Women who are creating things from their passion. I think they’re really admirable and impactful.
How do you unwind at the end of the day?
I am a sucker for a bath. We renovated our home and put in a beautiful bathtub—I’m in it at least four times a week. I also grew up taking baths instead of showers as a kid, so it’s become a very therapeutic and nostalgic thing for me.
