While MGMT are best known for their psychedelic rock songs and even trippier fashion, Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser shed the tie-dyed blankets and headbands for preppier duds during their Lollapalooza set.
VanWyngarden bore a striking resemblance to early Bob Dylan with super skinny black jeans topped off with a side-zipped polka dot jacket – collar popped high – and a short-meets-shaggy haircut flopped over dark black shades. Keyboardist Goldwasser looked positively debonair in an Elvis Costello-esque orange blazer, matching orange lace-up shoes, and his signature thick-rimmed glasses.
Today was a huge departure from their underwhelming show on Friday night at the House of Blues. This mid-day set brought the energy back and a sea of fans was all too pleased to hear their #1 tracks – “Time to Pretend” and “Electric Feel” in particular – plus efforts from their sophomore album, which haven’t been received as well, really took shape under Chicago’s setting sun.
