Sharleen Joynt on Bachelor in Paradise: Episode One

The smart, sexy former Bachelor contestant from Ottawa shares her thoughts on last night’s premiere

I don’t know about you, but The Bachelor franchise’s idea of “paradise” is a bit different from mine. Last night’s series premiere of Bachelor in Paradise provided almost too much fodder to mock. I felt like I was watching a “Where Are They Now?” edition of Girls Gone Wild, with participants no less inebriated or attention hungry—but at an age where they should really know better.

There’s no way to predict who will end up with whom since it seems all the men and women are interchangeable and their worth is quantified only by their attractiveness, so I’ll name my stand-outs:

Bachelor In Paradise 3

Lacy Faddoul

Attention Seeker of the Week Lacy, who seemed like a sweet wallflower when I met her on night one of Juan Pablo’s season, is here to “have fun.” The fact that this translates as romping in the ocean with two different guys on the first day alone doesn’t so much concern me; that she felt the need to make such a spectacle of it certainly does.

Bachelor In Paradise 1

AshLee Frazier

Crazy Award of the Week AshLee, for her terrifying possessiveness of someone she’s known less than a day. I wanted to send Graham a sponsor gift à la Hunger Games, in the form of a helicopter ride out of there.

Bachelor In Paradise 2

Daniella McBride

MVP of the Week Daniella, who seemed like the only relatable chick for miles.
