What a difference a year makes. By the end of last June, Jennifer Lawrence’s indie breakout Winter’s Bone was playing on 70 screens, having just crept past the million dollar mark. Flash-forward to June 3, and her new film X-Men: First Class is opening around the world on a superhero-sized budget.
Since her Oscar-nominated performance in Winter’s Bone, Hollywood’s heaviest hitters have been seeking her out. She even clinched the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in the hotly anticipated film version of the popular book series The Hunger Games, set for a March 2012 release.
In an exclusive interview, Jennifer Lawrence spoke to FLARE about her journey from schoolyard action hero to Hunger Games heroine.
On Being A Wild Child
“My mom [says]… ‘Jenn wasn’t allowed to play with the girls at recess. She had to play with the boys because she’s too rough.’”

“I’d rather look a little chubby on camera and look like a person in real life, than to look great onscreen and look like a scarecrow in real life.”
On Oscar Parties
“I went to the Vanity Fair [Oscar] party for a cool 15 minutes. And then I took off. I’m like a little old lady. I’m always tired around midnight…I mean it was cool to see Elton John, and I met Billy Crystal, which was amazing, but yeah, I’m mostly just kind of uncomfortable.”

“I cried when we got into Sundance. I never saw any of this coming.”
