Canadian directors David and Brandon Cronenberg will be spending some father-son time together at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which runs from May 16 to May 27.
David Cronenberg’s drama Cosmopolis, with Twilight star Robert Pattinson, will compete for the coveted Palme d’Or at the annual cinema showcase in France. His son Brandon will bring his debut feature, the sci-fi mystery Antiviral, to the Un Certain Regard category, which presents works by newer directors.
Also in the Un Certain Regard category is Quebec native Xavier Dolan. His new film Laurence, Anyways is about a woman in love with a man who decides to have a sex change.
It’s also going to be a big year at Cannes for Toronto actress and Cronenberg favourite Sarah Gadon. She’s in both the Cronenbergs’ films, Cosmopolis and Antiviral, and was last seen in David’s 2011 film, A Dangerous Method.
Other big stars we are expecting to spot on the red carpet are Twilight couple Robert Pattinson (Cosmopolis) and Kristen Stewart (On the Road), Brad Pitt (Killing Them Softly), Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron (The Paperboy), Matthew McConaughey (The Paperboy and Mud), Reese Witherspoon (Mud), and Marion Cotillard (Rust and Bone).–Erin Fitzsimmons
